İzmir Industrial Symbiosis November Synergy Workshops Realized

The second of the Synergy Workshops, which constitute one of the most significant steps in forming and developing an industrial symbiosis program specific for İzmir, was held on the dates 23-24 November 2022. 110 people from 61 different institutions physically participated in the workshops, which proved to be very productive and enabled the dissemination of sustainable production practices and the creation of new business opportunities across sectors. At the end of the workshops, 328 different resource types and 340 possible synergies were identified.

The Synergy Workshops, organized within the scope of the Industrial Symbiosis in Izmir Region Project, brought together companies and laid the groundwork for identifying existing and required resources, generating income by converting waste into resources, and reducing the costs associated with the use of alternative raw materials.

The two-day workshops provided opportunities for economic benefits to all participating companies as well as opportunities to improve environmental performance by bringing together companies/institutions from various regions of İzmir and adopting the approach of seeing the resources considered as waste by other businesses rather as raw materials for other businesses.
