The trainings of trainers, planned for the key stakeholders in industrial symbiosis field within the scope of the Industrial Symbiosis in Izmir Region Project, were held on the dates 25-26-27 May in İzmir Renaissance Hotel.
Within the course of the program, carried out with the participation of stakeholders who will contribute to the institutional and systematic operation of the developed industrial symbiosis collaborations and will play a role in the development of a management model unique to İzmir by undertaking the role of facilitators in the field, various topics such as cooperation development, data management, industrial symbiosis software and communication were discussed. Within the scope of the program, which also included national and international regulations and best practices, the participants were also given the opportunity to practice using software and creating cooperation.
Industrial symbiosis and waste management senior expert Ian Humphreys took part as a trainer in the training, attended by the officials of OIZs operating in İzmir, as well as Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO), İzmir Chamber of Commerce (İZTO), İzmir Commodity Exchange (İTB), Aegean Exporters’ Association (EİB), Chamber Of Environmental Engineers (ÇMO), and İzmir Water and Sewerage Administration (İZSU). The program, commenced with the opening speech by İZKA’s Head of Green Growth Policies Unit Sena Gürsoy, continued with up-to-date information about the industrial symbiosis activities and plans carried out in İzmir.
On the first day of the training, the trainer Ian Humphreys introduced the program planned to be used by the facilitators during the development of İzmir industrial symbiosis program and the relevant contents. Furthermore, the program involved the collection of data, effective data management, and the requirements related to the practitioner and facilitator roles. The second day of training covered the planning and implementation processes of synergy workshops, how to collect data from companies with potential synergy, and how to capture synergy results. Introduction to industrial symbiosis software, data creation in the program, data management and output matching, program objectives, and methods for prioritizing synergies were all covered on the third day of training. During the training, ideas were exchanged with the facilitators attending the event, and interactive participation in the training was ensured.
İzmir Industrial Symbiosis Trainings of Trainers’ will be continued in the coming period to improve the technical and managerial capacity of stakeholders who will contribute to the institutional and systematic operation of industrial symbiosis collaborations developed in the region and will play an important role in the development of a management model unique to İzmir by acting as facilitators in the field.
